There are currently nine board members.
Tom Battersby
(Redland Chair)
Tom Battersby has a long standing interest in housing
associations, having worked in West London as a housing officer
before starting in IT. He lives in Bath and works for Capita
Software Services in Trowbridge.
Mohindra Chowdhry
Mohindra Chowdhry
came to England in 1962 after the partition of India. He qualified
as a civil engineer specialising in structural design. After a
successful career in the construction industry, Mohindra set up his
own business importing leather from Europe, Asia and South America.
Mohindra has been president of the Indian Association in Bristol
and, with his wife, has contributed extensively to the Asian and
Sikh community. Mohindra is also the president of Panjabi Forum
International and a founder member Four years ago he joined Redland
Housing Association’s Board.
Kate Innes
Kate Innes, Independent Board Member has worked in the
sector for over 6 years in the areas of supported housing, general
needs and leasehold residents. On moving to Bristol two years ago
she was keen to get involved locally with an association.
Andy Riggs
Andy Riggs is a chartered accountant and has been working
within the education sector for 15 years. He is the Deputy Director
of Finance for the University of the West of England, Bristol.
He trained with Coopers and Lybrand in Manchester, before
working for a Further Education college in the North West, latterly
as Director of Finance, and then working with the University of
Chester as Director of Resources.
Andy has a degree in geography from Nottingham University and an
MBA from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has been previously
a trustee of a charity working with the homeless in Manchester and
on the board of a community centre in Warrington, and is a trustee
and treasurer of a local church in South Gloucestershire.
Sylvia Supple
Sylvia Supple is a tenant Board member and a qualified
music teacher, having taught in private practice and in schools at
comprehensive level. After retirement she set up her own business
as a dress designer and continued this for some years. More
recently Sylvia was appointed as Deputy Resident Manager of Maple
Leaf Court, a Redland Housing Association sheltered housing site.
She held this post for three and a half years; consequently her
interest in housing has been with the older generation. In the
future Sylvia would also like to be involved with housing issues
for younger people.
Brian Patch
Brian Patch is a Tenant Board Member, prior to taking early
retirement was a Chief Engineer at GKN Westland Helicopters and
also founder trustee at The Helicopter Museum. Since becoming a
tenant has been keen to get involved with the association and is
also a member on the Rent Review Panel. Is also on the Leadership
and Fabric committees at a local church in Weston-super-Mare.
Steve Atkinson
Steve Atkinson is an independent Board Member, he has
worked as a chartered town planner for over 35 years in local
government and currently as Group Manager for Housing and
Development at Sedgemoor District Council in Somerset. His
experience is mainly in town planning and management and he has
qualifications in mathematics, planning and management, having
recently completed an MBA with the Open University.
Paula Haines
Paula Haines, Independent Board Member, currently works for the
Environment Agency as Programme Executive in outsourcing its IT
services. Before that she has worked in Human Resources for
over 25 years for government agencies and in the insurance
industry. Paula has published a number of books for charities
and is also a landlady for a small number of properties.
David Parkes
David Parkes, Independent board member, has worked as a
chartered surveyor for many years in private practice in Bristol as
a property development, funding and investment specialist, He has
also undertaken management assignments for local and central
govenment organisations. David has a keen interest in sustainable
development and has set up and run a fair trade business and
organic garden/restaurant.
