Applying for housing
At Redland we are committed to the principles of 'choice-based
letting'. This is a way of letting homes which is open and
transparent, and allows applicants to see what is available and to
apply for the homes that they want.
We work with local authorities in all the areas where we have
homes to make sure that we are involved in such schemes, most of
which operate at local authority level and are administered by the
local council.
Wherever we are able to participate in a choice-based letting
scheme we will do so – as long as it meets the principles of our
lettings policy and of our wish to house those in greatest need.
Currently several councils are setting up schemes and so the
arrangements for applying to us will depend on where you want to
live.
Wherever a choice-based letting scheme is in place, you should
apply to the local council. In areas where schemes are not yet
operating we have our own application form and housing register;
however, we still let more than half our vacancies in these areas
to people put forward to us by the local council from their own
housing list.
In some areas, where we have few homes, our commitment to the
local council means that we have so few vacancies that it is not
sensible to keep our own separate list.
