All smiles at Tenants' Day 2009
‘Building Communities’ was the theme of Redland’s
Tenants’ Day this year, an appropriate headline for the community
of Redland tenants who enjoyed an informative and lively day at the
Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare.
The event was
attended by 60 tenants, and was an opportunity to meet old and new
friends over lunch and cups of tea and coffee. Workshops offered a
huge range of possibilities. Somerset Mediation gave advice and
practical help about the role of mediation in helping people to get
on with their neighbours and to develop their own local
communities.
Ray Hulbert MBE spoke about the Upper Horfield
Community Association and what local people have been able to do
for their community. Another workshop looked at opportunities that
Redland offers, and gave tenants the chance to have their say and
put forward their ideas for developing them. And finally, a
‘Laughter Clinic’ did just what it said and had tenants in stitches
– and those passing the room wondering what was happening!

A raffle, craft activities for children,
displays from Avon and Somerset Police about community policing,
and from Morrison, about its plans for the upgrading and
maintenance of Redland’s heating systems, completed the day.
A big thank you to everyone who came,
tenants and staff, to make the event so successful. A special thank
you to the social committee, the band of Redland tenants which
works so hard throughout the year to plan the event and to ensure
its success.
