Aids and adaptations
One in three of our tenants have some sort of
disability and at some time in their life may find that their home
is no longer suitable for their needs.
We try to design new homes with this in mind, but in some of our
older homes, or in properties we have bought from other people,
this might not be the case.
Sometimes we can help by giving people advice and support about
moving to another, more suitable home. Sometimes we may even be
able to provide such a home ourselves. But if the person wants to
stay in their current home, we will do everything we can to help
them do so.
We may have to adapt the property so that the person living
there can live a more independent life. It may be a very minor
thing such as a 'grab-rail' to help the tenant get into and out of
the bath, or a major thing such as putting in a stair lift or a
downstairs toilet.
If the work is minor we'll do it straight away, at a time to
suit you. If it's more complicated then we may need to involve
others. If so, we'll give you the name of someone at Redland who
will be your point of contact throughout the process, and who will
keep you updated. This person will be your 'advocate': the link on
the right takes you to an explanation of what they will do.
