‘Art Works’ exhibition showcases the potential of young and
homeless people
Hundreds of people visiting Bath’s Guildhall in
February and March have been enjoying an exhibition of art by
people affected by homelessness. The Art Works exhibition,
organised by Shape Housing features photography, painting and
prints created by Shape residents and clients.
One of the artists is 18-year-old Daisy McGill who is currently
staying at one of Shape’s projects. Daisy said:
“I am really looking forward to showing my
work and skills. I really like photography and I will soon be
working on a fashion shoot, so it’s great preparation and
experience for that”.
For more than 25 years Shape has worked within
the local community, helping young and homeless people reach their
potential through support, training and housing. Shape supports
people through a range of challenges, circumstances and experiences
including mental health problems, drug and alcohol dependency and
family break ups.
Janet Errington, Shape’s Head of Housing and
Support, said:
“As well as providing temporary accommodation
and support for individuals and families, we help young people into
work and training and to take back control of their lives. At Shape
we passionately believe that everyone has potential and something
to offer, regardless of their circumstances. The Art Works
exhibition shows just that. With a little support from
organisations like Shape, people can begin to realise their
aspirations and look forward to building a positive future.”
The support Shape provides is person-centred
and can include help with emotional problems, money management,
welfare benefit advice, housing advice, mediation, life skills and
access into education, work and training.
Shape encourages residents and clients to get
involved at every level and the art exhibition is just one of the
many initiatives in place to ensure involvement and inclusion for
all who use our services.
