Sheltered Housing
Sheltered housing is for older people who want to move out of
their family home into something smaller and more manageable.
Although they want to stay independent, they also appreciate the
security of living in a scheme where there is regular contact with
a sheltered housing officer to help with support needs and on-call
services providing 24-hour cover.
The schemes are generally one-bed bungalows and flats, often with
shared rooms for activities and social events.
Extra Care housing
We also have some 'Extra Care' housing which is for older people
who need more support than sheltered housing offers, but who would
still like to be independent. Extra Care housing offers
self-contained properties let on normal assured tenancies, a range
of communal facilities including a restaurant serving midday meals,
an assisted bathroom, guest suite, plus staff available on
site 24 hours a day to provide care and support. Bath and North
East Somerset Council provides the care and all applications need
to be made through its Social Services department.
There is already an Extra Care scheme at St John's Court, Bath,
with a second now open at Greenacres, Midsomer Norton and a
third which has been built at Hawthorns, Keynsham.
