Somer Community Housing Trust supports charities at
Christmas
14th December 2009
Trust staff have joined other members of Somer
Housing Group to support a number of local and national charities
this Christmas.
Staff at the group of housing associations – which also includes
Shape Housing Association in Bath and Bristol-based Redland Housing
Association – donated money to charity, instead of sending
Christmas cards to each other. They also selected the charities to
benefit: the Salvation Army Local Toy Fund, Help for Heroes and the
British Heart Foundation.
In addition, colleagues also put together 38 shoe boxes for
Operation Christmas Child, organised by Samaritans Purse, which
will go to Serbia and Romania.
Meanwhile, the Trust’s housing staff recently raised an amazing
£190 for the Golden-Oldies at an away day. They held a raffle, and
an Xbox 360 donated by a member of staff was auctioned off for the
charity, which works closely with the Trust.
This comes on top of an impressive £439.30 raised across the
whole group for November’s Children in Need appeal. There was a
dress-down day, a raffle, and ‘Pudsey’s Café’ opened for business,
serving cakes and biscuits donated or baked by staff.
Julie Evans, Director of Customer Services (Housing &
Support), said:
‘Everyone here has been very generous over
the year and always look to support local charities that can make a
difference in our area, alongside the established, national
charities that are close to them.
‘We would like to wish all of our residents
and everyone who works with us a very happy Christmas.’
The Trust’s offices at The Maltings on Lower
Bristol Road will be closed over the Christmas period, along with
Somer Community Housing Trust’s Local Service Centres in central
Bath, Twerton, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton. The Maltings will be
shut from 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd December, with the Local Service
Centres closing at 12.30pm. They will all reopen at 8.30am on
Monday, 4th January 2009. The emergency repairs service will be
maintained.
As is the case at any time of year, residents who experience a
major emergency – such as a fire or flood – over Christmas, should
contact Bath & North East Somerset Council to organise
temporary accommodation on 01225 39 40 41.
