New doors bring security and peace of mind for residents

19th August 2008

A programme to replace the communal doors of Trust blocks in Bath is underway, addressing residents’ concerns about security and access to their homes.

The programme, which started in June, will replace the exterior doors at 29 blocks of flats in Snow Hill, Twerton and Foxhill. It is scheduled to be completed in January 2009.

The existing doors will be upgraded to new, hardwood, half-glazed doors with a magnetic locking system that opens with a special key fob. These systems have proved to be very effective at improving security levels and reducing vandalism and repair rates.

The doors are being fitted so that they open outwards, rather than inwards. This simple measure will also help to reduce vandalism.

Neil Bolton, Director of Customer Services (Property) said:

‘We recognise the need for people to feel safe in their homes, and view the common hallways and landings as extensions of their homes. These doors allow residents to have greater control over who is allowed into these areas. This programme was developed in response to residents’ wishes to improve security and we are pleased with the results to date.‘

The project will cost around £400,000 and is being undertaken by CLC Contractors Ltd.
