New guest room for the families of residents at Welton Vale, Midsomer Norton

27th November 2008

Residents at Somer Community Housing Trust’s sheltered housing in Welton Vale in Midsomer Norton, are delighted with a new guest bedroom for visiting family.

The refurbished bedroom, based in Welton Vale’s community hall, can be booked at discounted rates. This allows relatives from further afield to stay nearby when they come to visit. The room can be booked by relatives of Welton Vale sheltered housing scheme and costs.

Some of the residents and their families, through their involvement with the Welton Vale Over Fifties Club, helped with the redesign and chose the furniture, carpet and paint colours.

A special opening ceremony was held at one of the club’s weekly gatherings in the community hall. Karen Keane, the Trust’s Sheltered Housing Team supervisor, cut a ribbon and joined in the celebrations.

Jane Keeley, the social club’s Secretary and Welton Vale’s Tenant Representative, said:

‘We would like to convey our sheer joy and sincerest gratitude to the Trust for re-instating the community bedroom facility on site. Until recently the room was a somewhat smelly, derelict junk room, which didn’t even have a bed in it. With assistance from the Sheltered Housing Team, it has become functional again.’
