Energy Trust

Energy Trusts are registered charities that award grants to reduce or clear electricity and/or gas debts to domestic customers of EDF Energy or British Gas.

Both trusts have funds of two million pounds available to people across the UK who need help paying their energy bills.

Bristol Debt Advice Centre (BDAC) is working with the EDF Energy Trust and the British Gas Energy Trust to help reduce the amount of fuel poverty in the South West of England. The Trusts have been set up primarily to offer financial assistance to individuals and families who are struggling to pay their electricity and gas bills. The Trusts aim to make a long-term difference to a person’s situation by reducing or paying off arrears enabling them to focus on their ongoing commitments.

The areas covered are:

  • Bath & North East Somerset
  • Bristol
  • Gloucestershire
  • North Dorset
  • North Somerset
  • South Gloucestershire
  • Wiltshire

The Energy Advice Project is extremely successful, over 90% of all applications have an award made and applications for help with energy arrears have a success rate of over 99%.
