Grants

We have two main grants available to help you make a difference in your area.

Community Initiatives Grant

Do you have a good idea for your community but need money to do it?

Somer Community Housing Trust gives up to £500 to support initiatives which help build strong, sustainable communities in areas where our residents will benefit.

Examples of projects funded in 2007 include:

  • A family fun day in Camerton.
  • Football sessions for young people in Larkhall.
  • Healthy cooking course in the South West of Bath.
  • The Friday shopping club in East Harptree.

Any voluntary and community groups working in areas where the Trust has properties are able to apply and there are regular meetings to award grants.

For more information call the Community Initiatives Officer on 01225 366145 or email pat_cosgrove@somer.org.uk.

Neighbourhood Impact Grant

Residents, staff, police and other agencies are encouraged to put forward ideas for physical improvements to Trust neighbourhoods.

Last year £10,000 was allocated for improvements.

Examples of projects carried out include:

  • Resident-led community garden project at Combe Down, Bath
  • Security lighting at Foxhill, Bath
  • Communal garden improvements at Meadow Court, Bath
  • Handrail and lighting at Chichester Place, Radstock
  • Fencing at Sherwood Close, Keynsham

A panel of staff and residents assesses the applications for the fund and Area Panels make the final decision on how the money is spent. The budget for 2007/08 is £25,000. This equates to £5,000 per Area Panel. During 2007/08 detailed work will be carried out with staff and residents to promote Neighbourhood Impact and review decision-making processes.

For more information on the Neighbourhood Impact scheme contact Chris Boyes on 01225 366144 or email chris_boyes@somer.org.uk.
