Grants

We have two main grants available to help you make a difference in your area.

Community Initiatives Grant

If you have a good idea for your community that would benefit Trust residents but need some funding to make it happen, then this could be what you are looking for.

The Community Initiatives Grant (CIG) has been benefitting Trust communities since it began nearly 10 years ago. There are 2 levels of Grant you can apply for:

  • a) up to £200, this is a very straightforward grant to apply for and is available to help those groups who may need something to help make their activity/group a success. For example, it may be that a Residents Group would benefit from having a Tea Urn to make their social functions that bit easier.
  • b) between £200 - £500, this grant requires you to provide a little more information and may be used for projects/activities such as Family Fun Days.

Listed below is an example of some of the successful groups who received funding last year, one such group was the Walcot All Stars. The All Stars are a group of girls, mainly from the Whiteway area who came together to form a Ladies Football Team. They are managed and coached by local resident Sarah Lynton,

Sarah said;
‘It’s been great that we were able to successfully apply for a Community Initiative Grant from Somer. It has meant that we were able to purchase a kit for the girls who are really keen to play their first game. The girls have all stuck at their training and support from our local community has been fantastic’.

Some other successful applicants during 2010 have included:

  • Proud of Your Doorstep: a group working towards the removal of fly tipping and general litter by supporting people to remove their bulky items.
  • START: a group that developed through a need identified particularly for those living a life that involved alcohol, drugs, crime, to engage in activities that helped them focus on change and to make their lives better.
  • Eastfield Avenue Residents Association: A group working towards making their neighbourhood a nicer place to live in.
  • Larkhall Football sessions: A group of parents putting on football sessions every Saturday for all children to participate in.
  • Tuesday 50+ Club: A club for those older members of the community to enable them to participate in activities that encourage friendships.
  • Party in the Park (PSJ & Whiteway): Community / Family Fun Days to build community spirit and promote pride in local communities.
  • Chandler Close & MBE Residents Association: A large residents association who put on activities throughout the year that benefit their local community.
